New archaeological discoveries date back to the stone age in Syria
Syria, Culture, 11/4/1999
A Dutch expedition in Syria has discovered a residential complex that dates back to the new stone age in the seventh millennium BC. The residential complex, which was unearthed in the province of al-Raqqa, 550 km northeast of the capital, Damascus, includes circular houses, warehouses for the storage of cereals and several sculptures.
The Dutch archaeological team also discovered a fortification and a fortified fence dating back to the Assure era, approximately 1300 BC, besides several large stones from an ancient palace and a beer-production factory.
