Chinese president vows backing for Arab causes
Regional-China, Politics, 11/3/1999

Chinese President Jiang Zemin has stated that his country and the Arab states form a solid force to salvage world peace and security, asserting that Beijing has always accorded a special attention to developing ties of friendship and cooperation with the Arab states.

In a lecture he delivered on Sino-Saudi and Sino-Arab relations on Tuesday in Riyadh, at King Fahd's library, the Chinese president said that China totally backs just Arab causes and the legitimate interests of the Arab people, adding that there is Arab backing to Beijing in regard to Taiwan and other issues and that both the Arab and Chinese nations share common denominators, including the human right issue.

President Zemin highlighted the Chinese-Arab relations which were seen growing in the past few years in all political, economic and trade cooperation areas.

The Chinese president talked about the time-honored history of China and the Arabs, which dated back more than one thousand years, manifested through the renowned "Silk Road."

The Chinese president also indicated the importance of maintaining dialogue between different civilizations and of making use of mutual experiences with a view to pushing mankind into a new form of progress and prosperity.

The lecture read by the Chinese president was attended by Saudi Crown Prince Abdullah, high-ranking Saudi officials and members of the Chinese delegation accompanying Zemin in his visit.
