Egyptian plane black boxes found
Egypt, Local, 11/2/1999

US Navy Capt. James Graham said that what looks like the ping signal from the two black boxes of the EgyptAir passenger plane has been found and the equipment needed to isolate their location and deploy the underwater drones will require about 40 hours to finish the job assuming bad weather does not worsen.

US officials described the seas at 8 to 10 feet high and that if the weather worsens, then a delay in the search for the voice recorder will be delayed. However, should a delay take place, the officials assured that the found signal from the black boxes is strong so that the signal can continue for up to 30 days.

The navy said that once the equipment is ready and in order for diving into the 270 ft. deep waters, the navy will also wait for the NTSB (national transportation safety board) for a list of items to retrieve for investigative purposes.

The officials did not answer whether a person that was reported found whole floating was wearing a floatation vest or not. A vest on such a person could possibly imply that the plane passengers had prior notice of trouble on the plane.

The US officials commented that a previously large peace of the plane that was found floating was not recovered in time, and sank. He described this peace as a "Luggage container 4 ft by 4 ft by 5 ft."

Human remains continue to be recovered and mapping operations of the debris field will commence by the navy.

Meanwhile, the Egyptian family members of the plane accident arrived today in the US for victim identification purposes. Social and religious services are being provided to those concerned.

Also today, Boeing suspended deliver of all its large passenger jets to its customers for safety concerns.
