Polisario: Clashes renewed between Moroccan forces, inhabitants of Saharan city of Quen
Morocco, Politics, 11/2/1999

The Polisario movement, which calls for the Sahara's independence, said that clashes broke out as Moroccan forces resorted to power to disperse demonstrators in the Saharan city of Quen who came out in a peaceful march to protest the Moroccan occupation of the Sahara area.

A spokesman for the United Nations mission for organizing the referendum (MINURSO) confirmed the demonstration and the presence of Moroccan forces in the location, which witnessed clashes that broke out in September.

These demonstrations coincide with the 24th anniversary of joining this former Spanish colony to Morocco.
