Italian businessmen in Morocco tomorrow
Morocco-Italy, Economics, 11/2/1999

A twenty-member delegation of Italian businessmen from the Lazio region is paying a visit to Morocco November 3-6 to establish ties and partnership relations with Moroccan operators.

The Italian businessmen represent the sectors of agribusiness, ready-to-wear, leather and wood, computer industry, electronics and telecommunications as well as cosmetics, paints, furniture, toys and paper-made items.

A seminar on partnership opportunities will be held on Thursday in Rabat.

Moroccan minister of economy and finance, Fathallah Oualalou, announced last week that Italy will swap $ 100 million debts owed by Morocco into public investments, under an accord concluded between the two sides. He said the amount must necessarily be used to finance public investments part of the governmental program.

Morocco's exports to Italy totaled $ 341 million in 1998, making of this country the kingdom's 5th client.

In the same year, Italy was Morocco's 5th supplier, with $ 58 million imports of Italian goods.

During the first six months of 1999, imports were worth about $ 292 million while exports amounted to $ 162 million. Moroccan exports to Italy are made up mainly of fertilizers, fresh fish and garments, while imports are made up mostly of cars, machinery and various industrial tools.
