King Mohammed launches second solidarity campaign
Morocco, Culture, 11/2/1999
King Mohammed VI launched here Monday the 2nd nationwide "Solidarity Campaign" with this year's motto, the full integration of rural women.
In an opening address, he said action should focus on rural women who are mostly affected by poverty adding the campaign would be supervised by the Mohammed V Solidarity Foundation, he chairs. He hailed results reached in the previous campaign saying proceeds ($ 8.6 million) helped rehabilitate several charity institutions, and fund purchases of drugs and other humanitarian needs.
Those results, he said, show that solidarity is deeply embedded in islamic values cherished by the Moroccan people who is keenly aware development is unattainable as long as layers of the populations are not entitled to decent living standards.
The ceremony also included the signing of several partnership agreements between the Foundation and carrier "RAM," the national railway office "ONCF," the National Transport Office and the Moroccan Transport Company CTM.
On this opening day of the campaign, the Foundation donated three social-promotion associations 150,000 USD.
