Moroccan contingent to leave Tuesday for Kosovo
Morocco-Yugoslavia, Politics, 11/1/1999
A Moroccan military contingent of 270 members heads for Kosovo Tuesday to be in charge of health and social works as part of the United Nations Force (KFOR) deployed in the province.
Princess Lalla Meryem, chairwoman of the Royal Armed Forces Social Works, flew to Agadir to see off the contingent which was addressed a royal message read out by historiographer of the kingdom, Abdelwahab Benmansour.
Moroccan action falls within the scope of medical and social activities agreed upon and will mainly be geared towards alleviation of the impact of war on populations, the message said.
The contingent, including 20 women and assisted by a score of civilians, will be operating a hospital to provide surgery and varied medical care so badly needed in the area, the message read.
The move, said the royal message, stems from a centuries-old tradition and keen perception of Morocco's commitments at the international level, solidarity with other people, backing to international legitimacy and contribution to the triumph of law and legality.
