Egyptian ministerial delegation heads to Kuwait over mistreatment of Egyptians

Egyptian Minister of Labor Ahmed El-Amawi left Cairo today for Kuwait, heading a high-ranking delegation to discuss the incidents took place this weekend between Egyptian laborers and the Kuwaiti police.
Egyptian Foreign Minister Amr Moussa made a phone call to his Kuwaiti counterpart, Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmed al-Sabah that tackled the developments of the events and to feel assured about the Egyptian expatriates there.
During the phone call, the Kuwaiti minister said the situation is contained and the Kuwaiti authorities may have to expel some Egyptian citizens who violated work laws in Kuwait.
The two ministers emphasized the depth of ties between the two peoples and the distinguished relations between the two countries' leaders.
Egyptian Prime Minister Atef Ebeid phoned Kuwaiti Crown Prince Sheikh Saad al-Abdullah al-Sabah concerning the developments of these events.
Al-Kheitan district, one of the suburbs of the capital of Kuwait on Saturday night witnessed riots and bloody confrontations, during which gunfire and tear gas were used and tires were burned between crowds of angry Egyptians and Kuwaiti security forces.
The Kuwaiti dailies added that Saturday's "battle" started at 7:30 p.m. (Kuwait local time) after one Egyptian accidentally broke a dish in a Kuwaiti supermarket and after the owner of the place demanded that the Egyptian citizen repay the price of the plate. A fistifight erupted between the Egyptian citizen and an employee from Bangladesh who works in the supermarket, which provoked a large number of Egyptians to interfere in the row. Security men interfered and took the two conflicting sides to their cars to transfer them to the police center. The Egyptian laborers complained that they were mistreated.
