Mine kills a child in southern Iraq
Iraq-USA, Military, 11/1/1999

The Iraqi News Agency said yesterday that a child was killed and his older brother was injured as the result the explosion of munitions dropped by US and British aircraft on southern Iraq. The agency didn't mention the time of the incident.

Meanwhile, the US European Command said today that aircraft patroling the northern Iraq "no-fly zone" were attacked by anti-aircraft fire from northeast of the city of Mosul. near Ba'ashiqah. It added that the aircraft reesponded by dropping munitions directly on the site.

Western aircraft patrol the so-called "no-fly zones" in northern and southern Iraq following the Gulf War in 1991 to protect the Kurdish and Shiite areas from attacks that might be launched by Baghdad against them.
