Chinese president concludes visit to Algeria
Algeria-Saudi Arabia-China, Politics, 11/1/1999

Chinese President Jiang Zemin concluded his visit to Algeria on Sunday. Earlier in the day, Algeria and China asserted that achieving a just and comprehensive peace in the Middle East will serve peace and development on the international level and comply with the main interests of the peoples of the region.

In a joint statement issued at the conclusion of the visit the Chinese President Jiang Zemin held to Algeria, the statement called on the international community to help sides concerned in the region to eliminate obstacles and give the Middle East peace process a push forward.

The two countries vowed to back the Middle East peace process and to contribute to achieving peace in the region.

The two countries stressed that the African states are an important force in the international arena and that world peace is not attainable unless peace is established in Africa.

The two sides expressed in their joint statement their backing for increasing understanding and minimizing disputes through dialogue and their opposition to the concept of confrontation in the human rights area and intervention in the internal affairs of other states under the name of human rights.

They stressed that the five principles embodied in mutual respect for sovereignty, territorial integrity, not launching an aggressions nor interfering in the internal affairs, mutual benefits and coexistence should be the basics in the new international relations.
