Morocco - China fishery cooperation enhanced

Moroccan and Chinese officials' meetings have helped pinpoint further cooperation opportunities in the fishery sector, namely sea-products valorization, fishing-gear technology, halieutic research and maritime training.
Aquaculture will thus be a new realm of cooperation with China which can contribute to the setting up of a pilot-center and training of Moroccan researchers and experts in breeding and sea-ranching techniques.
The area of exploitation of algae and seaweeds is open to investments from China which is the world leader in harvesting, processing and marketing of these products. Chinese know-how and technology are also called for joint ventures to process and add value to fish landings in Morocco.
Chinese investors will also find highly rewarding opportunities in the markets of fishing-gear supply. The demand for modern gears, mostly imported, is on the increase.
