Arab League criticizes Mauritania's relations with Israel
Mauritania-Israel, Politics, 10/30/1999

The Assistant Secretary general of the Arab league (AL) Ahmad Bin Hali on Friday criticized the measure taken by Mauritania in establishing diplomatic relations with Israel.

He added that the new step taken by Mauritania will increase Israel's intransigence and damage the Arab position in the peace process.

In an interview with the BBC on Friday, Bin Hali added that Israel will try to benefit from any positive signals from any Arab state and invest them in its relations with the international community, especially with influential countries, e.g. the European Union and the US. He questioned the reason behind giving Israel such privilege.

Bin Hali called on Mauritania to reconsider this step for backing the position of the Syrian, Palestinian and Lebanese negotiations.
