Morocco, UNESCO agree to create university chair on women's rights in Morocco
Morocco, Culture, 10/29/1999
Morocco and the UNESCO signed in Paris Thursday an agreement creating a university chair on women's rights in Morocco.
The chair will promote research, training, information and documentation on women's status, promotion of women's rights and elimination of gender discrimination. It will also endeavor to increase regional cooperation between researchers and university teachers.
UNESCO Director General Federico Mayor stressed the "highly symbolic" value of this step in a country moving toward a genuine democracy. He added that this chair will, no doubt, contribute to correcting prejudices and preconceived ideas on Morocco.
