Meeting between President Lahoud, Jumblatt ends hostilities

The awaited meeting between Lebanese President Emile Lahoud and the chairman of the Socialist Progressive Party, Walid Jumblatt, who is also the chairman if the national struggle parliamentary front, was held on Thursday at the president's residence in Baabda.

Following the meeting, the parliament members of the "struggle front" who accompanied Jumblatt on his visit had the impressions that the visit was the "first constituent meeting" for a durable dialogue between President Lahoud and Jumblatt and described the meeting as "very comfortable" in ending hostility and that during the meeting several matters in the Lebanese arenas were reviewed, as well as the situation in the Middle East.

At 11 a.m. Thursday closed-door meeting was held between Lahoud and Jumblatt that lasted for 25 minutes, then the meeting was joined by the front's parliament members, including Marwan Hamadeh, Akram Sheheib, Wade Aqel, George Deeb Nemeh, Nabil al-Bustani, Ayeman Shqeir, Ala eddine Terro, Khalil Abdul al-Nour, Antoine Anrawous and Abdu Bajjani.

The plenary meeting Jumblatt thanked President Lahoud for his positive stand towards amending the Druz al-Awqaf law which was issued on Thursday in the (official newspaper).

Talks dealt with the need of protecting the environment and Lahoud, in this respect, highlighted the remarkable nature of Shouf district.

According to statements made by the parliament members who accompanied Jumblatt to the meeting with President lahoud, President lahoud and Junblat has identical views towards the facts that "backing political stability can be realized through the return back of the displaced (those who were displaced from al-Shouf during the Lebanese Civil War) and reaching an election law as well as Israel's withdrawal from south Lebanon as well as the unity of the Syrian and Lebanese stand as means to foil the Israeli maneuvers."
