Naval transport agreement between Kuwait and Iran
Kuwait-Iran, Politics, 10/29/1999
Kuwait and Iran on Thursday signed an agreement that provides for facilitating naval transport of commodities between the two countries in preparation to inaugurate a Kuwaiti free zone with its main activities concentrated with trade with Iran.
The Kuwaiti official news agency KUNA reported that the agreement states that the two sides will "transport commodities via the sea between the free zone in Kuwait, which will be officially opened by the end of next November with Khormshahr and Bander Khameini districts in Iran."
The agency quoted the director general of the free zone in Kuwait, Jaheil al-Jaheil, as saying that signing the agreement "aims at reactivating the trade movement with Iran and is in line with the inclination of the Kuwaiti government to economic and trade openness as well as revitalizing the role of the free trade in Kuwait."
Al-Jaheil continued that this agreement will help in "rapid transport of commodities from Iran to Kuwait via the sea, as well as to facilitate the entry of commodities to free zones in the two countries."
