Yemen, Kuwait, Bahrain refute Israeli claims
Regional-Israel, Politics, 10/29/1999

Yemen on Thursday deliberately denied claims by the Israeli media of secret contacts with Israel.

A spokesman for the Yemeni government said that what has been reported by the Israeli daily Yediot Ahronot is futile and fabricated, adding that the Israeli media had made similar claims which were also baseless in the past.

The spokesman stressed that his country will not establish diplomatic relations with Israel before the realization of a just and comprehensive peace in the Middle East, the restoration of the occupied Arab lands in south Lebanon and the Syrian Golan and the establishment of a Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital.

For its part, Bahrain has totally denied any secret contacts with Israel in the attempt to establish diplomatic relations with it. The Bahraini spokesman added, "There are no secret contacts, and we are committed to the Arab and the Gulf references concerning relations with Israel."

In Kuwait, the spokesman for the Foreign Ministry described the reports published by the Israeli daily as "wrong." He said that Kuwait honors all decisions taken by the Arab League concerning relations between the Arab states and Israel.

On Thursday, the Israeli paper claimed that Israel is making secret contacts with Yemen and Bahrain in order to establish diplomatic relations with them, and that US officials are making pressures on the Arab states to establish relations with Israel, SANA reported.
