Spanish ambassador calls for mutually-profitable partnership with Morocco
Morocco-Spain, Economics, 10/28/1999
Spain's ambassador in Morocco, Jorge Descallar, called in Casablanca Wednesday for Morocco and Spain to establish a mutually-profitable partnership, stressing that King Mohammed VI is resolved to consolidate bilateral relations.
The Spanish diplomat, who chaired the two countries' conference on food industry said his country has taken a series of measures for Morocco, citing the swapping of Moroccan debts into private investments and a new financial arrangement to develop the kingdom's northern provinces.
After he recalled that Spain is Morocco's second supplier, he noted that Moroccan agro-food imports are limited by the high customs protection.
Despite the package of encouragement measures enforced in Morocco to attract investors, Spanish participants noted that the balance of agro-food trade remains favorable to Morocco due to the high cost of energy, land and transport and heavy administrative procedures.
