Sultan Qaboos of Oman meets with Bashar al-Assad

Sultan Qaboos Bin Saeed of Oman received in Muscat on Wednesday Bashar al-Assad, son of Syrian President Hafez al-Assad. The Oman News Agency said talks during the meeting dealt with ways of strengthening bilateral ties in all areas.
Present at the meeting was Omani Foreign Minister Youssef Bin Alawi and Minister of National Economy Ahmad Bin Ali Nabi Macki.
On Wednesday evening, al-Assad left Muscat and was seen off by high-ranking Omani officials.
In a predeparture statement to reporters, al-Assad expressed happiness to visit Oman. He added, "This visit was important, during which I met with several high ranking Omani officials on top of whom Sultan Qaboos Bin Said."
Al-Assad continued that his talks dealt with several issues, especially means of revitalizing relations between Syria and Oman. He continued, "We have discussed several topics dealing with the region in general and the Middle East peace process, in particular."
He said that the stand of officials in Oman, especially Sultan Qaboos was in full backing for the Syrian position concerning the Middle East peace process. He expressed hope that this visit will be "an introduction for exchanged visits between officials in the two countries."
