A message from El-Bashir to Mubarak
Sudan-Egypt, Politics, 10/27/1999

Sudanese Foreign Minister Mustafa Othman Ismael stated that he will deliver a letter from Sudanese President Omar Hassan El-Bashir to Egyptian President Hosni Mubrak during his meeting with Mubarak on Thursday, in reply to reporters' questions following his third meeting with Egyptian Foreign Minister Amr Moussa yesterday.

He said that President El-Bashir's message is around the desired role and Egyptian efforts for achieving rapport in Sudan, especially as Sudan faces threats against its unity and security. He added that this requires efforts from the Sudanese and from intimate countries, headed by Egypt, on the Arab and African levels intil "we reach a stable Sudan which gives African stability and Arab national security."

In reply to a question about the statement that was issued by Asmara, which accuses the Egyptian - Libyan initiative of being weak and contradicts with the IGAD initiative, Othman Ismael said, "We think that the Egyptian - Libyan initiative isn't an opponent to IGAD's initiative," adding, "We wish that the Egyptian - Libyan initiative should be studied carefully, especially as all will discover that it completes IGAD's initiative."

He added, "Our concern with the both the Egyptian - Libyan initiative and IGAD's are derived from the existence of real changes in Sudan, as we seek to to renew Sudan where there are the right of nationality and everyone finds his complete rights."
