Communication minister calls for meeting on public media
Morocco, Politics, 10/27/1999

Communications Minister Larbi Messari called for work meetings gathering his department, the department of economy and finance and the Moroccan press union (SNPM) in response to social action by the public media, in order to promote better financial contracts that are competitive with the private sector.

Meetings, says a press release, would look again into status of the MAP news agency, RTM radio and TV network and the daily Al Anbaa to give them more management leeway and adequate financial means for the sector's take-off.

Public media professionals paid as state employees have been trying for years to wrestle a status different from the public office one they are subjected to, in an attempt to bridge the salary gap between them and fellows in other sectors.
