El-Mahdi criticizes Albright's statements and describes them as rushed and ignoring facts
Sudan-USA, Politics, 10/27/1999

El-Sadek El-Mahdi, the former Sudanese prime minister and the chief of the opposition Ummah Party, criticized the statements made by US Secretary of State Madeleine Albright regarding the Egyptian - Libyan initiative for finding a comprehensive political solution to the Sudanese problem, saying that there is a high degree of rushing and ignoring facts, especially as there is a special envoy from the U.S. president twho will arrive at the area tomorrow to see things and to learn the different opinions as well as prepare a comprehensive report regarding this matter.

In a lecture he delivered yesterday on African studies and research at Cairo University in Egypt regarding the political solution in Sudan, that was attended by ambassadors from the IGAD countries in Cairo, he questioned the reason for the U.S secretary of state to say these hurried declarations and why did not she wait for the US envoy's report.

He emphasized that the decision in this matter is up to the IGAD countries as owners of the peace initiative and that there is no reason for such bold US interference which arose the resentment of the IGAD member states.
