Mandela calls on Israel to withdraw from the Arab territories
Regional-South Africa, Politics, 10/27/1999

Former South African President Nelson Mandela on Monday night called on Israel to withdraw from the Arab territories occupied in 1967. Press reports quoted Mandela as saying in a conference on peace and security currently being held in Atlanta that Israeli officials gave him during his recent visit to Israel an impression in that they are seriously considering giving up land for peace in the Middle East. Mandela indicated that he received some backing for his plan from world leaders, including US President Bill Clinton, British Prime Minister Tony Blair and French President Jacques Chirac.
