Iraq asks for water from Turkey
Iraq-Turkey, Politics, 10/26/1999
Iraq asked Turkey yesterday to grant it a proper share of the Degla and Euphrates rivers' water according to international norms.
Iraqi Minister of Irrigation Mahmud Dhiyab al-Ahmad stated that Turkey had stopped sharing in the meetings of the joint technical committee between the two countries for discussing the water subject since 1993.
The water problem forms a sensitive problem for Iraq since Turkey implemented a project that included the constructino of dams and reservoirs on the basins of the Degla and Euphrates which affected the volume of the flowing water.
