Libya seeks registration of archaeological relics

The Libyan archaeological service started early this week the registration of all archaeological relics kept at the Red Palace Museum (Esseria Al-Hamra) in Tripoli, the pan-African news agency PANA reported.
According to Mohamed Chakchouki, the director of general administration, an agreement will soon be concluded with an Italian mission specialized in the retrieval and preservation of relics to rehabilitate the Marcus Aurilius arch, among other national heritage pieces in the ancient city of Tripoli.
The registration operation is launched in cooperation with a team of scholars from the Rome III University and the Italian National Research Center.
The archaeological service, in cooperation with the Arab League Scientific and Cultural Organization, is also carrying out research and excavation works in the ancient Islamic city of "Sultan" in Syrte. Sultan is among Libya's most important ancient Islamic cities.
