Sudanese foreign minister: Israeli trains and finances rebels in the south

Sudanese Foreign Minister Mustafa Othman Ismael said yesterday that Israel presents equipment, aid, weapons and training to the rebel movement in southern Sudan, saying that this information has been confirmed and was mentioned by the Israel mass media.

He said he discussed with Arab League Secretary General Esmat Abdul Meguid in their meeting yesterday the national rapport in Sudan and the efforts to find a comprehensive solution for the south's crisis through the Libyan - Egyptian initiative in coordination with the IGAD initiative.

He added that they tackled the threats facing Sudan, especially the statements made recently in Nairobi, Kenya by US Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, who promised to present support to the rebel movement in the south, also declaring her opposition to the Egyptian - Libyan initiative, which is considered an initiative for the comprehensive solution. She stated that she will prevent the African states she is visiting from investing in Sudan.

Mustafa Othman Ismael depicted these declarations as an interference in Sudanese interior affairs and said that the Arab League stands by Sudan and supports it in maintaining its security and territorial integrity.
