Trophies for social action awarded to Moroccan and French associations
Morocco-France, Culture, 10/26/1999
The awarding ceremony of the solidarity trophies, dubbed "les trophees Tadamoun," was held in Paris on Sunday to reward several Moroccan and French associations, working in favor of poor children.
In a message to participants in the ceremony, held part of Morocco's times in France, King Mohammed VI said the yearlong event on Morocco in France must also be that of solidarity with the poor.
Morocco's times in France should also be times of solidarity and of joint moves so that the have nots and poorest layers be not forgotten at this exceptional moment of cultural, spiritual and social communion between Morocco and France, the sovereign said.
This trophies night is that of the rejection of indifference and egoism and the associations working both in Morocco and France in favor of poor children succeeded to materialize the content of the solidarity concept, King Mohammed VI said in the message.
The 1999 solidarity trophies were handed over to the Bouregreg, Bayti, L'Heure Joyeuse" and AMESIP (association marocaine d'aide aux enfants en situation precaire) associations which are operating in Morocco and to France-based Les Petites Lumieres, Al-Ousra, and l'Association de Solidarite pour l'Enfance Marocaine.
A trophy was equally handed to representatives of Moroccan soldiers who fought for France's liberation and who are now temporarily settled in Bordeaux (southwestern France) to claim their most basic rights. The gesture was meant to draw the attention of French public powers to these soldiers' precarious situation.
The purpose of these symbolic trophies is to mobilize the Europe-based Moroccan community for solidarity actions and for the struggle against poverty, initiated by King Mohammed VI last year, said the event organizer, Khalid Quandili.
Quandili, former full contact world champion, has been active for years in France for the integration of juvenile delinquents through sports and culture activities.
The ceremony was attended by more than 18,000 people.
