League sets up comprehensive plan to impose peace, stability in Somalia

The Arab League has Set up a Comprehensive Plan on Restoring Peace and Stability in Somalia, a League Official said over the weekend.

Assistant Secretary General for Arab Affairs, Ahmad Bin Hilli, told Reporters that the plan relies on coordination and cooperation with the international and regional organizations to show support for a stable Somali Areas in order to encourage non-stable regions to follow suit.

Bin Hilli said the plan is based on publishing forward Arab efforts and coordinating with neighboring countries, especially Ethiopia and Kenya, as well as having an active role by the European Union regarding the implementation of the initiative Djibouti presented in coordination with the Arab League.

He said that the plan highlights the importance of the U.N. role in Somalia, as well as its coordination with the regional initiatives launched by a number of countries including the Organization of African Unity (OAU) aimed at imposing peace and stability in Somalia.

Bin Hilli said the League Secretary General, Esmat Abdel Meguid, had recently sent letters to the OUA's acting chairman, President Abdelaziz Bouteflika of Algeria and the President of Djibouti Ismael Omar Guelleh, expressing support to Djibouti's peace initiative on Somalia.
