Moroccan public media professionals stage sit-in
Morocco, Culture, 10/25/1999

Journalists working at the Moroccan public media will stage Tuesday a sit-in before the Economy and Finance Ministry to claim financial improvements.

The sit-in is meant to renew the grievances of the journalists of Maghreb Arabe Presse (MAP), the RTM (national radio and tv) and the Al-Anbaa daily, the press union (SNPM) said in a release. The three bodies are owned by the state.

The SNPM blames the government for failure to heed the grievances of the public media journalists, including a clear compensations system, matching the professionals' efforts.

The Union puts the Economy and Finance department under fire for its bureaucratic approach in dealing with the issue.

The Union also calls for dialogue on a clear juridical frame that will guarantee the development and flourishing of the state-run press bodies.

More than 80% of the Moroccan print media journalists observed a strike last week to put pressure on employers to improve their moral and material situation.
