Libya-Sudan-USA, Politics, 10/25/1999
Gomaa El-Ghazani, the manager of the Libyan follow-up bureau, the Libyan ambassador to Cairo, and the former premier, criticized yesterday the negative US stance toward the Egyptian - Libyan initiative for solving the Sudanese political crisis, saying that the USA hasn't the right to intervene in Sudanese affairs, especially as Sudan isn't a state in Central America near its borders, consequently, the USA should not be concerned in the Sudanese question.
In a lecture in the African studies and researches institution in Cairo University about the African dimension in Libyan policy, he said, "as though we don't have the right of the other neighbor countries to seek to solve problems among which IGAD's countries, the USA and Europe, which seek from their side to sustain and support the countries initiative under the name of IGAD's friends, then IGAD's partners, become now the alternative to the IGAD, countries and the best proof is the conference of IGAD's partners, which was recently held in Rome."
Sudan is Africa's largest country and has border with 9 countries. It is in the process of formulating a reconciliation between the government and opposition forces that are present in the south and north of the country where Egypt and Libya have border with Sudan.
