Hamas ready to offer great concessions to Jordan
Jordan, Politics, 10/25/1999

The former chairman of the political bureau of the Hamas resistance movement, Mousa Abu Marzouk, has expressed the movement's readiness to offer great concessions concerning the arrest of the chairman of the Hamas political bureau, Khaled Mashaal, and its spokesman, Ibrahim Ghoushe.

In a statement to the London based al-Wasat magazine, Abu Marzouk pointed out that the "right of citizenship is not bargained" (in reference to their Jordanian nationality).

Abu Marzouk added that Hamas was ready to help Jordan in alleviating pressures facing Jordan because of the presence of the movement's leadership in Jordan because, "Jordan understands these pressures and their volume."

He continued that the Hamas had previously agreed to get Hamas political bureau member Imad al-Alami from Jordan at the request of the Jordanian government.

But Abu Marzouk, on the other hand, warned against that if the problem is not settled, it would mean a return by the movement to "secret work" as it had been before reaching "a political agreement between the two sides that makes the movement's activities in public."

Al-Wasat commented that Abu Marzouk is the most prominent candidate to assume the post of chief of Hamas' political bureau.
