Party leader criticizes government inaction
Morocco, Politics, 10/23/1999

The leader of the Istiqlal Party (PI-in government) criticized "inaction" of the Moroccan socialist-led government.

"We have waited too much and the government has practically done nothing in many sectors," PI Secretary-General, Abbas El-Fassi, told the press on Thursday.

El-Fassi, whose party holds 6 of the government's 41 portfolios, said the PI will not, however, leave the Government.

The Government, led by Socialist Prime Minister Abderrahmane Youssoufi, has been in power for 18 months.

El-Fassi, who said his party is deeply concerned over the success chances of the government, underlined that his remarks are part of what he called "constructive self-criticism."

The fight against corruption, administrative reforms and engendering the morality of political life are among the fields that should be tackled earnestly by the government, he said.
