Tunisian President Zein al-Abidin Ben Ali is scheduled to pay an official visit to Egypt at the beginning of the last week of November. Tunisian sources in Cairo told ArabicNews.com that, "The visit comes with an invitation from Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak to restore Arab solidarity," adding that the two states are jointly willing to increase bilateral cooperation in the different commercial, agricultural, industrial, economical and cultural fields. Italian Minister of Foreign Trade Piero Fassino is to arrive tomorrow in Cairo heading a delegation including 70 businessmen with different specializations to hold a series of meetings with Egyptian officials in the ministries of economy, industry, petroleum, electricity, communications and transportation, and convene with members of Egypt's international economic forum, headed by Egyptian businessman Mohammed Shafik Gabr. The Israeli occupation forces on Wednesday carried out large-scale military maneuvers in the settlements of Kreyat Oune, and Jabaat Shameul and the Jordan Valley. Israel Radio said that field weapons, military vehicles, ambulances and light and smoke bombs were used in these maneuvers. Go

Jordan on Thursday received the first shipment of the advanced British Challenger tanks as a gift from the British government in the course of Britain's military aid to Jordan. Go

Algeria and France signed an agreement banning tax duplication between the two countries. Algerian Minister of Finance Abdelkrim Harchaoui signed the agreement for the Algerian side, while Francois Huwart, the minister of state for trade, who is currently visiting Algeria, signed the agreement for the French side. The head of the Palestinian government monetary authority, Fuad Bseiso, said an economic conference for the Arab states will be held in the middle of next month in Cairo to discuss the requirements and conditions of issuing the Palestinian currency. Bseiso denied reports about issuing the Palestinian currency, saying they are inaccurate. He added that the Palestinian monetary authority is conducting extensive studies and is looking at the experiences of other countries that have achieved independence recently, in addition to getting to know the nature of currency systems in the world. An Iranian economic delegation comprising a large number of businessmen and officials will arrive at Cairo on November 1, headed by Khesro Tag, Iran's first deputy trade minister, on the margin of opening a fair for Iranian products in Cairo. The delegation will meet with Egyptian officials and businessmen to discuss increasing mutual investments and increasing commercial exchange between the two countries after a 20-year period of tensions. The European Parliament's chairwoman, Nicole Fontaine, will shortly visit Rabat, Algiers and Tunis, parliamentary sources disclosed Thursday in Brussels. Go

Minister of the Senegalese Armed Forces Cheikh Hamidou Kane is currently visiting Kuwait in a four-day official visit, during which he will convene with the emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Jabir Salem al-Sabah, and high-ranking Kuwaiti officials. Go

Moroccan secretary of state for cooperation, Aicha Belarbi pays this October 24 through 28 working visits to Poland and the Czech Republic. The Moroccan official will discuss with her interlocutors Morocco's political and economic relations with these central European countries as well as the latest developments on the regional and international scales. The visit to the Czech Republic will be crowned by the signing of a protocol for cooperation between the two countries' foreign departments. Go

Meetings of Arab sports experts concluded yesterday with an agreement on a document including recommendations aimed at promoting inter-Arab sports in the attendance of representatives of most of the Arab states and Algerian minister of Youth and Sports Mohamed Aziz Derouaz. Go

A German ship in distress was rescued Wednesday off the Casablanca shores by Moroccan rescue teams. The ship launched distress calls some 35 miles west of the Moroccan city, following an engine breakdown. Go

AA Belgian national was sentenced by a Tangiers court to 10 years in jail for drug trafficking charges. Dominique Raymond Demunter was arrested on October 14 at the Tangiers port with more than 1 ton of cannabis extract, locally known as chira, concealed in his lorry. The dealer was also sentenced to pay a $14,000 fine. Go
