US defense secretary in Cairo for 48-hour visit

US Defense Secretary William Cohen arrived in Cairo on Thursday for a 48-hour visit, during which he will meet with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak.

AFP said the US embassy in Cairo announced that Cohen's talks with Mubarak and with Egyptian Defense Minister Muhammad Hussein Tantawi will deal with means of strengthening military cooperation between the two countries.

AFP added that Cohen will attend the "Bright Star" maneuvers which are currently being held in Egypt with the participation of several countries. Cohen's visit to Cairo, in which he arrived from the United Arab Emirates, comes in the course of his tour of several countries in the region.
