Fishing agreement with EU will not be renewed, says Youssoufi
Morocco-European Union, Politics, 10/21/1999
Moroccan Premier Abderrahmane Youssoufi underscored in Brussels on Wednesday Morocco's stand not to renew the fishing agreement with the European Union which expires on Nov 30, 1999.
In a work-session in Europe's capital with delegates of the Moroccan coastal and high-sea fisheries, Youssoufi confirmed previous statements saying the kingdom would not renew the accord.
President of the Andalusia autonomous government Manuel Chaves, an area whose fishing activity will be adversely affected by the expiry, had recently said in Rabat there would be no agreement similar to the one concluded in 1995. He, however, stressed the will of both parties to carry on dialogue on the matter.
Youssoufi is currently in Brussels co-chairing, with the European Commission President Romano Prodi, works of the colloquy "Morocco-Europe: A shared fate."
