Report: Muslim Brothers delegation to visit Damascus
Jordan-Syria, Politics, 10/20/1999

The Jordanian daily al-Dostour said on Tuesday that Hamas political bureau member Mousa Abu Marzouk is trying to get the approval of the Syrian authorities to permit a delegation representing the Muslim Brothers group in Jordan to visit Damascus.

The delegation is to meet with Abu Marzouk to discuss his movement's outlook toward a possible political agreement between the Jordanian government and Hamas

The paper quoted Muslim Brothers sources as saying that the group is waiting for the green light from Abu Marzouk to move its delegation to Damascus to meet with him.

Meanwhile, the Kuwaiti daily al-Watan quoted sources at the Muslim Brothers movement in Jordan as saying that the movement will send delegates to Damascus to meet with Mousa Abu Marzouk, one of the Hamas movement's leaders, in order to discuss the movement's outlook for the political agreement expected to be reached with the Jordanian government.

Abu Marzouk had refused, earlier, the previous preconditions stipulated by the Jordanian government in expelling Hamas leaders Khaled Mashaal and Ibrahim Ghoseh to an Arab stated (the two men are imprisoned in Jordan).

The paper quoted well-informed sources as saying that the current initiative of the Muslim Brothers implies ending the "criminal case," holding direct dialogue between the political bureau of the Hamas movement and the Jordanian government, and stressing Jordan's sovereignty, security, and stability, honoring legitimate rules and permitting a media and political bureau for the Hamas movement in Amman.
