Iran for maintaining solidarity among Arab, Islamic states
Iran-Regional, Politics, 10/20/1999
The chairman of the Iranian Shoura council, Ali Akbar Nateq Nouri, described the results of his talks with Saudi officials as "positive and constructive."
In a press conference he held in Jeddah on Monday, Nouri said the aim of his visit to Saudi Arabia is to strengthen relations between the two countries in various fields. He expressed his hope to benefit from technological and technical potentials in the two countries for promoting bilateral relations.
Nouri asserted the importance of maintaining solidarity among Arab and Muslim states, especially under international blocs so as to preserve the rights of the Islamic nations' peoples. He said that the main pillars of Iranian foreign policy are built on eliminating tensions in the region, noting that the Iranian policy is quite clear in "its care to preserve remarkable relations with the Arab and Islamic states in the region."
Concerning the demonstrations that took place in Iran recently, the chairman of the Iranian Shoura council downplayed the "significance" of these demonstrations. He stressed the ability of the Iranian government to deter those who violate the public order in the country.
Concerning the question of the three UAE islands, Nouri said the best way to settle this question is to make a constructive dialogue between the two sides, adding that Iran "had started such a dialogue."
