Italy for achieving peace in the Middle East
Regional-Saudi Arabia-Italy, Politics, 10/20/1999

Italian Defense Minister Carlo Scognamiglio has asserted his country's readiness to carry out any role demanded by the international community to back the efforts exerted to achieve a just and comprehensive peace in the Middle East.

In a statement to the London-based al-Hayat daily issued on Tuesday, the Italian minister expressed his hope that negotiations between Israel and the Palestinian government will be resumed. He noted the importance of continued dialogue in order to solve suspending issues between the two sides.

The Italian minister, who concluded on Monday a visit to Saudi Arabia, described the results of his talks with high ranking Saudi officials as constructive and covered the new excellent relations between the two countries. He denied that he had signed in Saudi Arabia arms deals, SANA reported.
