Amman hosts people's conference for Jerusalem

The secretariat of the people's conference in defense of Jerusalem has confirmed the decision taken in its first conference, when it adopted the year 2000 as an international year of Jerusalem and decided to accelerate efforts during the year 2000 to disclose the Israeli schemes against the city and to support the steadfastness of the people of Jerusalem.

At the conclusion of its meeting in Amman on Monday, the secretariat recommended backing the "heroic resistance mounted in Palestine and Lebanon against Israel," calling on Arab and Islamic peoples to maintain further cohesion with the resistance forces.

The recommendations, which were distributed in a press conference held on Monday, condemned rushed attempts made on the Arab and Islamic levels to establish relations with Israel, noting that maintaining such ties with Israel perpetuates the Israeli occupation.

The recommendations called for avoiding Israeli "traps" aimed at achieving normalization of relations with Israel.
