On rapprochement between Syria and Jordan
Jordan-Syria, Politics, 10/19/1999

Israel's ambassador to Jordan, Odeit Eiran, said that rapprochement between Syria and Jordan will not negatively affect Israeli-Jordanian relations.

During his meeting with members of the Jordanian delegation currently visiting Israel on the occasion of the 5th anniversary of signing the Wadi Araba agreement on Monday, according to the Israeli radio, Eiran expressed his conviction that Jordan's King Abdullah has played a positive role in the efforts to resume Israeli negotiations with Syria. The ambassador added that King Abdullah conveyed the news to Israel that there is a strategic change in Syria towards its relations with Israel.

Eiran compared the agreements Israel signed with Egypt and Jordan. He said, "There is a priority in the relations with Jordan over relations with Egypt." He accused Egypt of placing obstacles against starting multilateral negotiations.
