Iraq comments on Cohen statement
Iraq-USA, Politics, 10/19/1999

The chairman of the foreign relations committee at the Iraqi Parliament, Khaled Shehab al-Douri, has viewed statements released on Monday by US Defence Secretary William Cohen against the Iraqi government as an intervention in the internal affairs of Iraq and as having no legitimate or legal basis.

In an interview with Monte Carlo radio, al-Douri indicated that the "Iraqi rule" is standstill and is based on a solid role, which is the steadfastness of the Iraqi people and their commitment to the leadership of President Saddam Hussein.

Replying to a question on the possibility of the Arab Gulf states' response to the call advocated by Baghdad not to be dragged to the American trend, al-Douri indicated that under the occupation of the US troops of the Gulf region, "I believe that there are people who are deprived of their will to take the necessary stands even if they have these stances."
