Egyptian- Sudanese talks in Cairo
Egypt-Sudan, Politics, 10/19/1999
Egyptian Foreign Minister Amr Moussa received Mohammed Othman El-Merghany, head of the Sudanese opposition Democratic National Alliance, on Sunday.
Moussa said after the meeting in answering the reporters' questions that Egypt sees the possibility of creating a fruitful discussion between the Sudanese opposition, saying, "We are waiting for the results of the National Alliance's meeting in Cairo during the coming days," adding that the results of this meeting will be an important indication in developing the communications during the coming weeks.
In answering a question regarding his opinion about the visit that will be paid by US Secretary of State Madeleine Albright this week and her meeting with John Garang, leader of the rebel Sudan People's Liberation Army, and whether there is a fear of Garang's separation from the peace movement, Moussa said, "Albright's tour is not only for Garang, yet it is an African tour during which she will meet the whole Sudanese opposition."
