Agadir to host African fisheries training center
Morocco-Africa, Economics, 10/16/1999

The Moroccan southern city of Agadir is to host an African fisheries training center.

The recommendation was made by the fourth session of the ministerial conference on fisheries cooperation between African Atlantic countries held in Conakry, Guinea, Thursday and Friday.

In the final report issued at the end of the session, participants recommended the setting up of a regional training center within the Agadir-based higher institute of maritime fisheries technologies.

According to the final report, the center will consolidate the conference member states' individual and collective capacities in matters of sea products quality checking and maritime fisheries technologies.

The report said that the Agadir higher institute meets international standards in matters of training and applied research on sea products' processing.

The conference, which confirmed Morocco as its permanent secretary, focused debates on cooperation between member countries in the realms of vocational training and scientific research.

The Morocco-Japan-African countries tripartite cooperation project on vocational training, the project to set up a network of sea research institutions existing in member countries, and means to enhance the competitive edge of fisheries industries were also on the agenda.
