Morocco, Politics, 10/16/1999

King Mohammed VI arrived in Chefchaouen Saturday noon carrying on a tour to several northern provinces.

Before the official entry in the city, the sovereign visited the complex meant to provide adequate premises for professional purposes and help young promoters start their own business creating jobs and attracting investment to the area.

The $500,000 (5 million Dh) project launched in March this year thanks to funds by the trade, industry and handicraft department and the national agency for the promotion of northern provinces comprises 29 professional units. The nucleus of young promoters will be used as a locomotive for free enterprise and initiative and a model for young graduates insertion in socioeconomic activity.

In the afternoon, King Mohammed VI is expected in Al Hoceima, the next leg of his tour before heading east Sunday to Nador.

In Tangier where he had performed the Friday prayer, the sovereign, accompanied by his sister Princess Lalla Meryem, had visited the construction site of a pedagogic and reeducation center for autistic children.

The nearly-completed center provides full catering to the varied and specific needs of 60 autistic children.
