Japan donates Palestinians $15 million

Japan has extended the Palestinian government $15 million aid for the construction of school facilities for basic education in the West Bank.

A release sent to MAP by the Japanese embassy in Rabat said notes related to the assistance were already exchanged in Tokyo between Japanese Foreign Affairs Minister,Yohei Kono, and Palestinian Planning and International cooperation Minister, Nabil Shaath.

The aid will allow the Palestinian government to construct 11 schools for basic eduction in order to provide a proper educational environment.

The government of Japan already extended aids, worth $23 million, to the Palestinians for the construction of 10 schools for basic eductation in the Gaza Strip.

With this new aid, Japan's assistance to the Palestinians since 1993 amount to about $476 million.

The embassy said the Japanese government intends to continue to cooperate actively for the support of the Middle East peace process.
