The Chinese government decided to present a donation to Tunisia of $600,000 to develop the commercial and economic private sector in Tunisia. This came at the conclusion the visit of Zuhu Kee Yun, the Chinese deputy minister of international cooperation, to Tunis yesterday, during which he discussed with Tunisian Prime Minister Hamed Karoui developing cooperation between the two countries in the economic field and establishing joint fairs, in addition to signing an agreement for joint commercial cooperation between the two countries. Morocco will take part in the euro-mediterranean youth conference to be organized oct 24 in Malta by the British Council in collaboration with the European Commission. The event to climax with the setting up of a network grouping youth from mediterranean north-european countries will enable 100 youth to discuss issues of relevance to nationality, faith, poverty, security and identity. The US European Command said today that Iraqi forces east of Mosul launched surface-to-air missiles against Operation Northern watch aircraft patrolling the northern Iraq "no-fly zone." The aircraft attacked "targets in the vicinity of Mosul" in response, it added. Go

The Algerian daily Sawt al-Ahrar said that the security forces killed two Armed Islamic Group members and wounded another two in the area called al-Fakouka Pula Tissemsilt. The paper indicated that some 20 gunmen surrendered to the authorities concerned in the provinces of Setif, Illizi and Ouargla, under the civil concord law. Go

Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak urged the USA to presenting aid demanded called for in the framework of the Wye Plantation accord to support the peace process. Barak said, "Israel needs this aid to go on in the peace process," expressing his hope that the USA will make haste in fulfilling its pledges. Go

Greek Defense Minister Apostolos-Athanasios Tsokhatzopoulos started on Wednesday an official visit to Israel by holding talks with Israeli President Ezer Weizman. The meeting dealt with bilateral relations and means of strengthening military cooperation between the Israeli and Greek sides. In statements quoted by Israel Radio, the Greek defense minister said his visit to Israel "constitutes an evidence of fostering Greek-Israeli Relations." Go
