Barak respond to the Jewish settlers' pressure
Palestine-Israel, Politics, 10/14/1999
Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak succeeded in avoiding confrontations with settlers after his decision to reduce the number of settlements he intends to remove from the West Bank.
Barak informed the chiefs of the settlements that he will remove 15 settlement locations that were illegally built in the West Bank, but he agreed today on reducing the number after negotiations to 12 locations.
Chiefs of the settlements threatened Barak with the use of violence by the settlers in the settlements.
Opposition still prevails in the Israeli side, especially among the extremists and religious parties.
