Moroccan, Libyan Airliners to Service Flights between the two states
Morocco-Libya, Economics, 10/14/1999
Morocco's Airliner Royal Air Maroc (RAM) and the Libyan Arab Airlines agreed to service two weekly flights between Morocco and Libya.
The accord was announced Wednesday by moroccan transport minister, Mustapha Mansouri, at the weekly question time in Parliament.
He added that Morocco is still expecting a Libyan reply to a Moroccan request to re-open the Casablanca-Tripoli Line.
The line has been suspended due to the embargo that was imposed on Libya for alleged involvement in the bombing of a pan-Am airliner in 1988 over the Scottish village of lockerbie, claiming the lives of all passengers.
The Minister, who recalled Morocco's backing to Libya's request to lift the sanctions, said the Moroccan carrier had operated an inaugural flight to tripoli last April 19 following the suspension of the embargo.
He added that Morocco had informed the competent Libyan authorities of its consent to open air links between the two Maghreban nations.
Morocco and Libya are partners in the Arab Maghreb Union, which also includes Algeria, Mauritania and Tunisia.
