Moroccan-Swedish Information Technology Partnership
Morocco-Sweden, Economics, 10/14/1999

Posts and information technology minister Larbi Ajjoul called in Rabat Wednesday for a genuine partnership between Morocco and Sweden in the realms of telecommunications and modern information technology.

In a meeting with visiting swedish peer Lars Rekke, Ajjoul highlighted reforms undertaken by the Kingdom and said more efforts are needed to enhance low bilateral trade exchanges.

Rekke stressed the key-role played by new information technologies in economic development but also in the health and education sectors and said his country, already present in the national telecom network through Ericsson, is willing to widen the scope of cooperation with Morocco.

Trade exchanges between the two countries totalled 1302,5 in 1997 as compares with 1181,5 million DHS in 1996.

Sweden exported 1147.6 million DHS's worth in 1997 while imports from Morocco stood at 151.9 million DHS.
