Iraq-UN, Health, 10/13/1999
The head of the childhood fund affiliated to UN, Carol Bellamy, started a visit to Iraq yesterday to look into the news which said that children's death exceeded more than doubled what pre-sanctions levels.
Bellamy arrived in the Iraqi city of Torok to make sure of the credibility of the UNICEF organization's reports in association with Iraq and the World Health Organization, which revealed an increase in the death rate among children under the age of 5 to 131 deaths per 1000, while this rate was 56 deaths per 1000 before the economic sanctions.
