Syrian-Lebanese follow-up committee concludes deliberations

Chaired by Syrian Prime Minister Mahmoud al-Zou'bi and his Lebanese counterpart Salim al-Hoss, the Syrian - Lebanese coordination and follow up committee on Tuesday in Damascus concluded its meetings.
Al-Zou'bi said, "Our meetings were fruitful, as we have evaluated previous agreements and programs and clarified certain points so as to overcome any obstacle which may rise in the future."
The two prime ministers signed the minutes of the meetings.
An agreement on tourism cooperation was also signed by Syrian Tourism Minister Danhou Dawoud and Lebanese Tourism Minister Artur Nazarian. Another agreement on agricultural production exchange was signed by the ministers of the agriculture in the two countries.
The minutes of meeting emphasized the historical relations between Syria and Lebanon as indicated in the "Fraternity, cooperation and coordination agreement" between the two states.
On the political level, the minutes of meeting stressed that a just and comprehensive peace which would restore the occupied Arab territories is the strategic option for both Syria and Lebanon and that the only way to achieve a just and comprehensive peace is through the implementation of UN Security Council resolutions 242, 338 and 425 and the land-for-peace formula.
The minutes of meeting emphasized that Syria and Lebanon are clinging fast to the unity of a common destiny and tracks and that the two states are ready to resume peace negotiations from the point they were cut off. The Syrian - Lebanese committee expressed satisfaction that the concerned officials in both countries have signed and ratified agreements in the field of education avoiding double taxation and encouraging investment.
On the economic and services levels, the committee adopted a number of decisions and recommendations to boost bilateral cooperation in the areas of electricity, gas, oil, water, agriculture, transport, industry, environment, education, technical education, higher education, information, communication, tourism and health.
The minutes of the meeting was concluded as expressing great appreciation for al-Assad's directives for "providing Lebanon with all possible assistance for repairing the two power stations in Bsalim and al-Jamhour which were destroyed by the Israeli air strikes."
